1 million tons of steel. 100,000 lives at stake. 100 minutes to impact.
Frank (Denzel Washington) works as a train engineer and has done so for a while, he’s an average guy just trying to put food on the table for his family. Will (Chris Pine) is fresh out of training and joins Frank on his day. They’re not the best of friends and aren’t particularly suited to each other.
The pair are about to be united on a mission, a deadly mission. An unmanned train is hurtling down the tracks toward a populated town, and the train has no brakes. To make the matters worse, the train is filled with toxic chemicals. Everyone is at a loss what to do, until Frank decides it’s his duty to stop the train. Will unwillingly joins him and together they formulate a plan to stop the train before it decimates the nearby town.

An unstoppable movie
Typically, real train buffs will probably pick a few holes this Hollywood portrayal of a real life US railroad runaway train incident. However, the movie is skillfully filmed and the acting is good, too. The film manages to build up a huge sense of impending disaster, and the superb aerial photography adds to this feeling. I wont spoil the ending, but it was surprisingly restrained for a Hollywoodised story. I viewed the film knowing what some other railroad fans had said about it.....and formed my own opinion. I enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing again, this time in Blu-ray. The four stars is actually 4.5 stars, I my opinion. Cheers Bazza
