To catch a thief
To Catch A Thief was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and released in 1955. It stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Grant plays John Robie, a retired jewell thief who now lives a seemingly blameless life on the French Riviera. But his idylic lifestyle is threatened when a cat burglar starts stealing the jewells of the rich and famous using methods identical to those of Robie himself. The finger of suspicion is quickly pointed at him and the surete seem determined to lay the blame at his feet.. Robie realises that the only way he can prove his innocence is by catching the thief himself. There are all the usual twists and turns you would expect from a Hitchcock thriller and you will have to wait till the very end of the film to learn if Grant's character is really as innocent as claims to be. The film won the oscar for best cinematography and it is easy to see why. Hitchcock uses the riviera to its best effect and it looks really great on blu ray. Locations included Cannes, Nice and Cagnes sur Mer (the cemetery scene was filmed there when the mayor of St. Paul de Vence refused to let them film in that village cemetery.) Overall this is a highly enjoyable film, much lighter than many of Hitchcocks other films and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it.

To Catch a Thief
Wonderful film from Hitch. Lots of glamorous fun, it's light and frothy stuff. But the blu-ray is a real stunner. Amazing, clean, crisp details, lovely colour, some good depth. Well worth the upgrade if you're a fan.

To Catch a Thief (Blu-ray)
To Catch a Thief may not be essential Hitchcock, but it is certainly Hitchcock at his entertaining best. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly shine in this lightweight but engaging comedy thriller set in the beautiful landscapes of the South of France. The star pairing pays off, with chemistry and sizzle in a cat and mouse game between the two players. Blu-ray is the perfect format in which to enjoy the glamorous stars and the gorgeous sunny locations in one of Hitchcock's lesser known but hugely entertaining films.
