Surprisingly good movie, great picture but lossy sound
"The Island" is probably the best Michael Bay's work, but unlike Transformers movies was neglected on box-office. Bay's highly stylized visuals and over the top action make a wonderful mash-up homage to Logan's run & THX-1138 and even to some of his own movies (car chase is an upgrade from Bad Boys II and some of the clips were even reused in latest Transformers movie). Picture quality is perfect, making sets and actors shine - Scarlett Johansson will never look more beautiful. Unfortunately, only the new US release has less audio (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1) but US disc is region locked. It's a shame considering the audio was of reference quality on DVD. Extras include only one featurette (US release has three) and that's all. Bottom line - if you haven't seen this movie, treat yourself with this visual candy. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
