Nintendo will launch Nintendo 3DS XL, a new version of Nintendo 3DS with 90 % larger screens. The new system will create even more immersive entertainment experiences for users, delivering a wealth of games and video content that can be enjoyed on the go.
The new system's battery life outperforms that of the original Nintendo 3DS, and it comes bundled with a 4 GB SD card.
Even with the addition of the bigger screen, Nintendo's aim was to still make the system available at a reasonable purchase price. Because of this, and because so many fans already own a previous handheld, an AC adapter will not be included.

What is the 3DS?
The rumours had been round for ages, but that didn't stop everyone's jaws dropping the moment Nintendo officially unveiled the 3D follow-up to its DS handheld. Especially as it doesn't require cumbersome 3D glasses to enjoy its startling effects, and even offers 3D picture-taking and movie-watching!
Featuring the traditional dual-screen, the top 3.5-inch gaming display is designed to produced crisp 3D images, while the bottom 3D-less display works as the touch panel. The sleek little machine also promises improved graphics capabilities over previous DS models, as well as incorporating new motion-sensor controls, which Nintendo is confident will lead to "interesting new gaming ideas from developers".
What else can it do?
While the 3D visuals were enough to get fists punching the air in excitement, Nintendo also proudly showed off its new built-in camera with two camera lenses, enabling you to take photographs in 3D! Plus, it also carries the potential of watching 3D films on the machine, with Nintendo demoing trailers from upcoming 3D movies from Disney, Dreamworks and Disney. Better than those silly little screens on backs of airplane seats, eh?
To complete the announcement, Nintendo revealed a tantalising list of third-party publishers currently working on titles for the forthcoming system. This included an exclusive Metal Gear Solid adventure, DJ Hero 3D and high-speed racing game Ridge Racer.

Nintendo 3DS XL Console (Blue and Black)
Not sure if this update was actually necessary, considering the basic model was introduced just a year before it, but it is definitely welcome for someone who doesn't own the previous 3DS. The size of the screens has been significantly increased and although the images might look a bit more pixelated it's certainly for the best. Also, if you have big palms and long fingers like myself, it's definitely worth the extra price. The lack of the charger is a disadvantage, but if you have DSi, DSi XL or the 3DS you could use their charger. If not, the new one is not that expensive.

Nintendo 3DS XL - a winner
Nintendo's latest handheld, the 3DS XL, is everything that the 3DS promised to be and more. The enhanced battery life gives an extended period of gameplay, and the 90% larger screens are easier on the eyes than the 3DS, but as they offer the same resolution as the 3DS they can appear a little pixelated. The whole system feels more solidly built than the 3DS, and Nintendo has given the introductory colours available more thought, with the combination of blue and black in this instance offering a much wider appeal than the muted tones of the DSi XL and the garish aqua blue or boring black of the original 3DS. As with the 3DS, improved support for wireless encryption makes connecting to the internet more secure, but above all the system is designed to be fun, offering a low-resolution 3D and 2D camera. The AR card system uses the camera for image recognition to create 3D characters to be used in games, while StreetPass offers the opportunity to exchange games data and Mii data (the user created virtual persona used to play games) with other Nintendo 3DS users while in sleep mode. It's clearly a much better thought out offering from Nintendo. A 4GB SD card is included to save data and download games, although the omission of a charger in the European marketplace means you will need to have a DSi, DSi XL or 3DS charger from a previous purchase or buy a new 3DS XL charger.

nintendo 3ds xl
This was a great purchase and a fantastic price. I have got the 3ds original but the XL is far better.

Excellent XL!
What a difference there is between the regular 3DS and the new 3DS XL. The bigger screen makes gaming more immersive and watching video clips on there is more eye catching. The console itself isn't any more unweildy for being bigger, in fact it's easier to hold. Better buttons make it easier to use too, especially the Home, Start and Select ones. Proof that size is better here! The bigger screen is the best thing of all and makes the 3D show off just what it can do. Well worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Fantastique!
I love the upgrade to my 3DS. The screens are infinitely better than the previous incarnation. The stylus has returned to its rightful place on the side and the SD card slot has moved to the right alongside the stylus for space restrictions, one of the reasons the circle pad had no room there. The battery is better than before, the 3d is improved. The 3 buttons along the front have been vastly improved. You can press them lightly and they work quickly, as opposed to before where pressing with fingers hurt after a while, especially in games like the Minish cap. It's more comfortable to hold despite the size change, even for smaller hands. The corners are soft, there is a slot for the wrist tie on the right and left. I absolutely love it, definitely worth an upgrade or a trade in. Just remember to transfer all your data before hand.

Pressie for sure
Pleased with the fast delivery. The item bought as a present for my grandson but, feel sure he will be pleased when the 12th of August arrives. Will keep Zavvi high on my order list because I am happy with their excepting and their quick delivery. Shopped around but Zavvi were selling the item I was shopping for at a cheaper price and they keep their promise given that the price will remain the same and not go up.

Nintendo 3DS XL
Much nicer than the standard 3DS console. The larger screen makes playing games more enjoyable, being able to get more depth perspective in my view. The rounded corners on the case make it very comfortable to hold and is nicely balanced in the hands. The matte finish to the case is a nice touch as it does not show up finger marks half as much as the shiny original. No charger is supplied with this model, which is a bit of a pain for first time buyers of a Nintendo console. Delivery was very fast. Emailed on Tuesday to say it had been shipped. Delivered by courier on the Wednesday, two days before the official launch date! Definitely would use Zavvi.com again.
